Scotch Whisky is divided into two main categories, namely Malt Scotch Whisky and Blended Scotch Whisky although the term "Blended Malt" has come into use more recently. Blended Malt comprises two or more Malt Scotch Whiskies and, though still 100% Malt Scotch Whisky, it cannot be declared as Single Malt.
Malt Whisky is produced in four regions of Scotland that define and classify its type and distinctive taste. These regions are:
- Highland: a taste of heather, spice and smoke.
- Speyside: fruity and sweet with a whiff of smoke and where there are the greatest concentrations of Malt Distilleries.
- Islay: a pungent nose and taste; peaty with a marked hint of iodine.
- Lowland: a soft, mild and light whisky.
Blended Scotch Whisky is, as its name suggests, a blend of various Malt and Grain Whiskies married to give a specific nose and taste to suit the client’s requirements. All Scotch Whiskies must be aged for a minimum of 3 years in cask, before they can be legally called Scotch Whisky.
We can supply a superior blend of Scotch Whisky from our portfolio or, if preferred, the same or very similar quality as currently used under customers' own labels.
